Winter wear that needs a permanent spot in your closet

In just a few weeks, we will be shedding the many layers we put on for winter and replacing them with sleeveless tees and shorts to prepare for summer. Although sweater weather is almost behind us, you don’t necessarily have to start thinking about stacking up your winter collection at the back of your wardrobe only to forget about them for the next six months. Winter layering has inspired us to consider what jackets and outerwear we can take into the rest of the year. Some silhouettes are so versatile that they can be worn during any season. And this way, you will always be prepared for misty mornings, cool evenings, and even that one-off cold day in the middle of the scorching summer.

From hooded sweatshirts to blouson jackets, here are ten jackets you can basically wear at any time of the year. And yes, they deserve a permanent spot at the front of your wardrobe!

Solid Formal Blazer

Gone are the days when blazers were only worn in the boardroom. They have now become an outerwear staple when you need a more polished look. So whether you wear it with formal trousers or flared jeans, Allen Solly’s maroon solid formal blazer can be worn with various outfits. It is designed with a notch lapel collar and long sleeves. Match it with your formal trousers for when you go to the office, or wear it with a t-shirt and skinny jeans for brunch.

Printed Bomber Jacket

When you think of dressing in-between seasons, the outer layer that always comes to mind is the staple bomber jacket. Lightweight and chic, it provides endless styling options. You can just as easily pair a bomber jacket with shorts and a tank top as you could wear it with a summer dress. If you want to make a statement, Faballey’s green bomber jacket is the one for you. It is adorned with a floral print, and the winter jacket comes with a matching pair of joggers.

Denim Jacket

Nothing says cool and effortless, quite like a denim jacket. This ladies’ jacket is another perennial staple that can be worn right through the year. If you want it not to be just another winter wear garment, pick a lightweight denim fabric. Wear it with a floral skirt during spring, a scarf during autumn or with a sweater during winter – there’s a reason this jacket style has stood the test of time.

Printed Blazer

Loud prints are a great way to express your personal style. With florals, stripes, checks and geometric patterns, printed blazers are the answer to “Can I wear a blazer outside of the office?” Biba’s brown blazer is embellished with exciting prints and designed with a lapel collar and full sleeves. Club it with a black round-neck tee and skinny black jeans to add something extra to your outfit.

Waterfall Shrug

While shrugs may not be entirely appropriate as winter wear for women as they aren’t known for their warmth, they are great for layering your outfits. They are versatile layers, from long shrugs that sit close to the ankles to cropped shrugs that sit snugly at the waist. Take Vero Moda’s maroon waterfall shrug; it can be thrown over a tank top for an uber-casual look or a blouse for a smart casual one.

Sleeveless Blazer

Another outwear garment that may not necessarily be a part of your winter clothes, the sleeveless blazer is a popular choice for layering, especially regarding business casuals. The collar and tailored fit make it the right complement for trousers or a pencil skirt. You can also wear it as a standalone piece along with jeans. Vero Moda’s beige blazer is perfect for this type of styling. The short blazer has a lapel collar and a fabric tie-up that can be cinched at the waist.

Blouson Jacket

What is a blouson jacket? Typically, this jacket style has an overall baggy appearance but is tight at the waist. They come in different fabrics and are functional designs for winter wear for ladies or outerwear to up your style through the rest of the year. The aqua-blue blouson jacket from Van Heusen is stylish and comfortable for everyday wear. Designed with a collared neckline and drop shoulders, the long-sleeved jacket has delicate stripes and a blouson hem. Pair it with white flared jeans for a bright summer look, or wear skinny black jeans and a scarf to take it into the colder months.

Knee-Length Jacket

Long jackets should be an essential part of your winter collection, but transitioning this style to other seasons requires a lightweight design. The bright red jacket from Van Heusen, detailed with a notched lapel, tie-up sleeves, a drawstring waist and a muted floral print, is sure to become your favourite. Effortlessly add colour and style to the most basic outfit with this jacket. Let it stand out by throwing it over a black dress, or be the desi girl by wearing it with a kurti.

Hooded Sweatshirt

Nothing beats the good old sweatshirt when it comes to laidback and relaxed styles. They are well-loved for their loose fits and maximum comfort, exactly what you need to ensure your outfit is manageable. Sweatshirts are also worn with athleisure or active wear. Kappa’s hooded sweatshirt can do it all. The pink and blue tie-dye patterned sweatshirt will be a cosy addition to your wardrobe. Add it to your loungewear, streetwear or active wear during the year. Going on a run? Wear it with joggers or tights. Going for a grocery run? Slip on a pair of boyfriend jeans. Visiting the squad? A crop top and shorts will do nicely.

Zip Sweatshirt

Athleisure is forever a popular trend, making slip-on sweatshirts a must-have for the year. Cropped sweatshirts are particularly fashionista approved. Ginger’s navy blue sweatshirt should be in regular rotation. Designed with red colour blocks running down the full sleeves, a typographic print on the chest and a quarter-zip neckline, it is uber-cool for relaxed looks. In winter, top it off with winter coats, but come summertime, there’s no end to what you can do with this sweatshirt. You can do everything from ripped denim shorts to high-rise leggings with a sweatshirt.
